Best Air Conditioning Maintenance Tips from JOB Heating and Air Conditioning Saskatoon.
Please enjoy this Air Conditioning article from Home Tips we would like to share with you.
Air Conditioning Basics
Central air-conditioning systems consist of two main components: a condenser unit (typically outdoors) and an evaporator unit . Together these remove heat from rooms through refrigeration technology. Then fthe resulting chilled and dehumidified air is blown through ductwork throughout the building.
We would not recommend a DIY approach to HVAC ( Home Ventilation and Air Conditioning) . They absolutely should be handled by a Saskatoon Air-conditioning pro like our Trusted team at JOB. Some cleaning and maintenance tasks can be done by the homeowner, and will help with the systems efficient operation. This will keep the need for professional service people to a minimum.
MAINTENANCE TIPS FOR YOUR HOME COOLING SYSTEM
Before working on a central air conditioner, always turn off the power. The condenser typically has a 240-volt weatherproof disconnect box located near the unit; this contains a lever, fuses, or a circuit breaker to shut off the condenser. Turn this off, too.
(PLEASE Note: The condenser contains a capacitor that stores an electrical charge and can be dangerous; allow 30mins for the charge to dissipate.)
1.Clean or Replace the AC Filters
This should be scheduled regularly . We suggest replace your furnace filters three times a year or whenever they begin to look clogged with dust. Not doing so will restrict air flow and reduce efficiency. In addition you will recirculate dust and dirt into your environment.
2. A/C Condenser Coils need cleaning.
Typically located outdoors, it’s a large fan in a metal box . Ideally, it is protected, otherwise it is likely to contain leaves, yard debris, and dirt—and you will need to clean it. Airborne seeds and small flying insects can be a particular problem!
How it works:
A large fan inside the metal box moves air across coils. Often dirt clogs the coils. Anything that limits the flow of air will reduce efficiency. Check and clean the coils at the beginning of every cooling season .
Step 1: Turn OFF THE POWER : Then unscrew the side panels and pull them away from the unit and remove the top. Be careful not to dislodge or disconnect any wires connected to the fan. We prefer using a vacuum, gently clean the coils from the outside. Be aware and careful around the delicate fins and coils. After cleaning from the outside, vacuum the coils from the inside.
If you use a wind blower to dislodge debris on the exterior be careful not to set on highest turbo setting. We don’t recommend using water or cleaning products when cleaning. If you have any questions call Jeff and he will be happy to answer you !
